I was teaching a workshop — everyone in the room a business leader or entrepreneur. The question came up that always comes up: if AI does the work, what do we do?

What AI Actually Frees Up
When AI handles the repetitive, analytical, and administrative work, humans get something back: time. And what we've historically never had enough time for — face-to-face with clients, training our teams, being present with family, thinking strategically — becomes available.
Most leaders I know are operating on a deficit of the highest-value activities. They're spending time on work that shouldn't need them. AI fixes that allocation problem.
The Work That Stays Human
Relationships. Trust-building. Judgment calls that require reading a room. Mentorship. Creative direction. Leadership. These don't compress into a prompt. They require human presence and human judgment. AI can't do them — and won't for a long time.
The Real Risk Isn't Replacement — It's Inaction
The businesses that will suffer aren't the ones that use AI and let it take over tasks. They're the ones that refuse to change and watch competitors deliver more, faster, at lower cost. The threat is falling behind, not being replaced.
